Is Netflix available through McKee Library? Can I show Netflix materials in class?

Answer

Netflix does not sell its service to universities.  However, it does recognize that at times, teachers will want to show one of their documentaries to their class.  For many of their self-produced documentaries, this is an option – as long as you are logged into your own Netflix account, you only show it once in a while, only show it in a face-to-face situation, and only if it has been approved for showing that way.  The complete set of instructions, as well as documentaries that are approved to show that way are here:  https://help.netflix.com/en/node/57695

Netflix made a small number of their documentaries available for free on YouTube (including Ava DuVernay's 13th).  You can show these in class from YouTube, or link to them in your eClass for students to watch on their own.  Here is the page of documentaries that they have made available:  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvahqwMqN4M0GRkZY8WkLZMb6Z-W7qbLA

McKee Library has several other streaming media services that might have materials you could use for your needs. You can access the complete list of these resources at: https://www.southern.edu/mckee-library/Research_tools/streaming-media.html.
