Q. Does the library provide printing, copying, scanning, and fax services? Who can use the library computers?

Answer

Printing, Copying, Faxing, & Scanning

The cost of black & white printing is 6 cents, color printing is 29 cents, and photocopies are 10 cents per page. Patrons may scan to email for free, and there is a fax machine available for patrons to use free of charge.

Student patrons must swipe their ID card through the scanner by the copier or printer. Students must add money to their card at the Information Technology Campus Card Desk, or go online to the Meal & Prepaid Plan page under General Shopping (this method takes 24 hours to activate), to pay for copies and printouts. The library does not accept cash from students under any circumstances.

Faculty must use their personal ID card to make copies.

Community members with library cards will be requested to put money on their cards at the Information Technology Campus Card Desk.  However, the library will accept cash from community members who choose not to put money on their cards.

The Library will assist visitors in making copies on request.  Photocopying is limited to library resources and there is a maximum of fifty copies.  Please see the Circulation desk or Periodicals desk for assistance.

Wireless Printing:  Southern faculty/staff/student patrons may print wirelessly from their laptops or from laptops checked out at the library.  Patrons must have a valid Southern or Library Community ID card with available funds. McKee Library laptops already have the software installed, so they can print to the printer in Periodicals without further setup.  Patrons desiring to print from their personal devices should follow the instructions below:

Smartphones & Tablets: Users of iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, Kindle, and Nook can install an app to print.

Mac Computers:  Users can use this link to print. NOTE: It may take up to 10 minutes for your print job to be processed and appear on the print station.

Windows Computers & Tablets: Follow the instructions and prompts located here.

Copyright Law

McKee Library adheres to copyright law of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code), which governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Any person using the library's services is liable for any infringement.

Computer Use & Checkout

Computers are available for the responsible use of all library patrons. The primary purpose of the patron computer is to facilitate learning. Patron computers can be found throughout the library, on the first floor or second floor. Laptops may be checked out for use within the library by students or faculty. Workers at the Circulation desk are able to provide a login for guests who want to use their own laptops.

  • The library reserves the right to ask patrons to forego the use of computers if there are students who need to use them for educational purposes or if they are being used irresponsibly or inappropriately.
  • Any offensive, obscene, or indecent images, data, or material are prohibited.
  • Children, age 14 and under, may responsibly use the computers if they are accompanied by an adult.
  • Headphones are available for use in the library. An ID card is required and there is a $15.00 charge for damage.

Laptops are available for checkout at the circulation desk. They may be used in the library by students and faculty for up to 4 hours. Please read the Laptop Checkout Policy sheet thoroughly before you sign for the computer.
